BREACH PROFILE OF STATIONS FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL 2016

ABUJA ZONE

  • HOT FM Abuja  was fined  a Two Hundred Thousand Naira [N200,000] for airing  musicals titled “I like the way” by Timaya on April 12, 2016 and DJ Lambo’s “ The Motions”  with unsuitable lyrics such as “... it can never go boring with coke and henny in the system, come and see me in the bedroom like a gun cum cork it till the next day... it started from the bedroom... baby I wan give it to you right away, baby come through right away… rub me like lotion ah, baby come closer ah ah.. So you come see me naked, you want... will you bitch take off the tee he better know that you wanna fuck”. This breached Sections 3.6.1 and 3.13.2.2c of the code.

 

  • AIT ABUJA was fined One Hundred Thousand Naira [N100,000] for airing Music of Olamide title “Abule sowo” Which contains vulgar lyrics on April 10, 2016. This contravenes Section 3.13.2.2c and 3.6.1 of the code. Station was also advised to repackage advert of Solignum with the use of superlative, “World’s No 1 wood preservative with seal prove quality”, aired on April 12, 2016 in breach Section 7.0.14 of the Code.

 

  • NBS FM KEFFI On April 1, 2016 was fined One Hundred Thousand Naira [N100,000] for airing a classified NTBB music of Olamide tittle “Story for the gods’’ which contravene Section 3.1.6 of the code. Station was also cautioned and advised to repackage the Political jingle of Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu Kandido which exceeded 60secs by 58secs, in breach of section 7.6.2 of the code.

 

  • ITV ABUJA was warned from using scroll bar to advertise and promote Aiwa Global Ventures Nigeria Ltd and their products e.g. “Halogen oven, Aiwa ig slicer, small slicer. Aiwa single juicer” etc. on April 13, 2016. This contravenes Section 7.0.35 of the code.

 

  • NTA NEW 24 on April 26,2016 was cautioned and advised to repackage Advert of Dettol with superlative “No1 selling antiseptic soap proven to kill 100% ill causing germs which contravene Section 7.0.14 of the code.

 

  • KISS FM Abuja On April 3, 2016 was warned to desist from airing programme which contain unverifiable testimonies of miracles. Station featured Champion Assembly Faith with Apostle Gods power Ujah, with unverifiable claims, thus; “A young girl and a pregnant woman were healed of HIV after partaking in the soft drinks shared during the ‘Sunday of Sweetness’; A man suffering from pile for 15 years was healed after pastor’s prayer; A jobless couple were both offered employment by a telecom company and NGO after attending ‘Sunday of Sweetness”. This breached Sections 4.3. 1 & 7.5.1a of the code.

 

  • COOL FM Abuja was cautioned for breaching Section 7.0.15 of the code. Presenter endorsed cookie-bo on April 5, 2016, thus; “Go check them out and see how you can increase your weight, I particularly love their cake it makes me feel good”. This contravene Section 7.0.15 of the code. Station was also written to provide Proof of authentication for airing advert of Jumia with superlative. “Thank you Nigeria for making Jumia your trusted online store”, thereby breaching Section 7.0.14 of the code.
  • KAPITAL FM Abuja was cautioned for airing advert of New Realm Investment LTD with the use of superlative “we get the cheapest price, wey you fit find for market” on April 6, 2016. This contravene section 7.0.14 of the Code. Station was also cautioned for unverifiable claims to miracle by a Preacher on April 23, 2016, who claimed that he delivered a man from ancestral curse that resulted in 17 years barrenness,  and that the man’s wife conceived and today they have 3 children. This contravene Section 4.3.1[F][G] of the Code.

 

  • CROWTHER LOVE FM was caution for airing advert of Akin Herbal Home on April 5, 2016, with claims that A.B Action formula wey be touch and go for long term infections plus menstrual problems and radal capsule wey be immune booster energize, anti-bacteria and low performance enhancer. This contravene Sections 7.3.5 and 7.3.18 of the Code. 

 

  • WAZOBIA FM was warned for airing advert of Gin Clars with unverifiable claims thus;Gin Clars vitamins capsule is the guaranteed and reliable supplement…and helps erectile dysfunction…has no side effect, works like magic” on April 18, 2016 . This contravene Sections 7.3.9; 7.3.3; 7.3.18 and 7.0.31 of the Code.

 

 

  • NBS FM LAFIA was fined  One Hundred Thousand Naira [N100, 000], for airing a classified NTBB music of Olamide titled “story for the god on April 9, 2016 which contravene section 3.1.6 of the Code.  Station was also cautioned and advised to repackage the political jingle of chairmanship candidate of PDP Nasarawa state Hon. Danjuma Musa (Garkuwan Deddere) aired on April 29, 2016 which exceeded 60secs by 38secs. This contravene Section 7.6.2a of the code.

 

  • ROYAL FM ILORIN was warned for hyping Sunlight detergent, thus; "If you wash your cloth with sunlight detergent soap, the scent will remain for up to three or four days and that people won't notice that the cloth is dirty after being worn for three days" on April 4, 2016 which contravenes Section 7.0.15 of the code. Femi Okunlola, a newscaster with the station on April 15, 2016, voiced the advert of Shirt Centre, breaching section 7.0.20 of the code.

Adverts of Apex Microfinance Bank, Princess Paint and Honey Paint exceeding 60 secs were aired on April 19 & 20, 2016 respectively. The adverts ran for 120 secs each, in breach of Section 7.0.10 of the code

Station was also warned On April 25, 2016 when a Presenter with the station, Olayinka Ajani, voiced advert of sunlight detergent, breaching Section 7.0.20 Of the Code.

 

 

 

BENIN ZONE

 

  • ORANGE FM, AKURE on April 15, 2016 was fined One Hundred Thousand Naira (₦100,000) for airing a political interview programme which was not scheduled to be aired. The programme featured Ondo State’s (PDP) Publicity Secretary Hon. Barr. Ogunomo and the Panelist was not balanced. The guest used indecent inciting expressions against other political parties and its members as government of vendetta, stupid and never-do-well people who are condemning the PDP’s 16 year governance. While the Presenter Adeolu Gboyega failed to caution them as required professionally, thereby contravening Sections 3.4.7, 3.3.3 and 4.5.1 of the code.

 

  • OSRC FM, AKURE on April 7, 2016 was issued a Final Warning for airing a programme titled Wolimeje Wakati Meje where the Prophet made unsubstantiated claims exploiting the weakness and state of depression of public, painting natural circumstances as bizarre thus “You are 30, 35, 40 years and not married, 2-3 years never given birth, a graduate for years doing nothing… you need money, come for deliverance”. He also did not restrict his preaching to the content of its creed which contravened Sections 4.3.1f and 7.5.1c of the Code.

 

  • OSRC TV, AKURE on April 18, 2016 was warned for airing a video clip reflecting an event of June 12, 1993 election with prominence of Chief MKO Abiola, and the clip was used without professional identification as archival material during the programme Owuro Lojo (Aroba) thereby contravening Sections 3.5.2 and 5.3.9 of the Code.

  • NTA BENIN, on April 10, 2016 was issued a Final Warning for airing the advert of Zeco Best with the use of superlative thus “Zeco Best na the number one place”, thereby breaching Section 7.0.14 of the Code.

 

  • ITV RADIO, BENIN on April 10, 2016 was issued a Final Warning for airing “Denzel International Therapy Limited” which lasted 1 min 12 secs as against section 7.0.10 of the Code.

In the same advert, “Free super testing machine wey dey detect sickness for body” was offered and the station was called to provide evidence of certification and registration by the appropriate Regulatory body as against section 7.3.15 of the Code. Station was warned on April 29, 2016 for airing the advert of Global Horn PVC Ceilings with the use of superlatives thus; “they manufacture the BEST of PVC Ceilings…” in breach of Section 7.0.14 of the Code.

 

Station on April 08, 2016 was also warned for playing a musical titled “Abule Sowo” by Olamide which contain vulgar lyrics in breach of Section 3.6.1 & 3.31.2.2c of the Code, and displaying of programme title “Bridging the Gap” (Lapo) from the beginning of the programme to the end on April 09, 2016 as against Section 1.3.6 of the Code.

 

  • BSES RADIO, EKITI on April 15, 2016 was issued a Final Warning for airing a religious broadcast programme where the Pastor (Muyiwa Adeyemi) made claims which were not provable and believable thus… I prayed for a lady who is a Sunday school teacher and a spirit in her said she is “MATHAMAand her mission was to destroy lives of men and that she has destroyed the lives of 167 men” and I cast the spirit out of the woman. This contravene Section 4.3.1g of the Code.

 

  • RIZE FM, WARRI on April 04, 2016 was warned for airing the advert of “Warri Shop” with the use of superlatives thus “Warri Shop your number one online shopping destination”, as against Section 7.0.14 of the Code.

 

  • RAYPOWER FM, BENIN on the April 07, 2016 was warned for airing a programme Breaking of Pot (Papa G Ministry) where a Pastor claimed to have spiritually discerned that a sick woman in UBTH, was controlled by a woman through voodoo thus “while the nurse was trying to revive the woman, another woman was pressing the ground like a fowl, when accosted by the Pastor, the woman said it was not his business. This breached Section 4.3.1g of the Code.
  • AIT Benin on April 08, 2016 was warned for abruptly going off air and coming back on without appropriate courtesy to viewers as against Section 3.1.12 of the Code.

Station was also warned for airing a local movie “Agbara Nla (The Ultimate Power)” on April 8, 2016 between 1:00pm and 3:00pm which contained some horror scenes and which is capable of causing psychological harm to children before watershed time of 10:00pm. This contravene Sections 3.10.1, 1.5c and 11.7.2 of the Code.

 

  • EBS Radio, Benin on April 10, 2016 was warned for airing an advert where a trado medical practitioner “Iya Akure” asked women married for years with no child to welcome them at their homes to come for advice and information which contravene Sections 7.3.5 and 7.3.7 of the Code. 

 

  • EBS TV, Benin on April 28, 2016 was issued a warning letter  for airing the advert of “Unibake Special Bread” with the use of superlatives thus “which bread be the BEST bread, Unibake, which bread be the No. 1, Unibake…” during their programe World News as against Section 7.0.14 of the Code.
  •  

 

  • Progress FM, Ekiti on April 25, 2016 was warned for airing the advert of “Eroxil 5000” with claims of weight and fat reduction without stating the likely side effects. This breached Section 7.3.10 of the Code.

 

  • Adaba FM, Akure on April 26, 2016 was warned for airing an infomercial sponsored by management of “Oluji Pure Cocoa Powder”, with claims of potency to improve manpower during its programme “Araa Cocoa” as against section 7.3.18 of the Code.

Station was also warned for airing an advert offering services and solutions to all forms of eye defects of blindness (total and partial) which was sponsored by Mr. Oyedotun A. Moses, thereby contravening Section 7.3.5 of the Code.

 

  •  Positive FM, Akure on April 29, 2016 was warned for airing programme where a Presenter of News and Current Affairs programme Tile Toko, Shade Adeniyi, hyped the advert of Prince Foluso Mayowa Adefemi’s awareness and two newscasters Alade Adeniyi and S. Akanmu hyped the advert of Pastor Obadare’s revival programme as against Section 7.0.15 & 7.0.20 of the Code.

 

  • Breeze FM, Akure on April 27, 2016 was cautioned for not adhering to its published programme schedule of World Atlas programme as against Section 3.4.7 of the Code.

 

 

ENUGU ZONE

 

  • HOT FM OWERRI (99.5FM) was fined One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000.00)  on April 4, 2016 for playing a classified NTBB musical titled “Gift” by Inyanya featuring Don Jazzy in violation of Section 3.1.6 of the Code.

 

  • ESUT FM ENUGU (106.5FM) was fined One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000.00) on April 10, 2016 for playing a classified NTBB musical titled “Gift” by Inyanya featuring Don Jazzy.  This contravened Sections 3.16 of the Code.

 

  • BLAZE FM ORAIFITE ANAMBRA (91.5MHZ) was warned and advised to stop further broadcast of programme and other such programmes that promotes superstitions and superstitious practices. Station on April 21, 2016 between 3.45pm & 4.00pm aired a programme titled “Oge Odinala” during which an invited guest “who is a spiritualist claimed  he can cure people who are possed with Ogbanje spirit or marine spirit in violation of Sections 7.0.23 and 7.3.11 of the Code. 

 

  • EBBC SALT TV ABAKALIKI was cautioned for using scroll bar to advertize AIWA Global Ventures Nigeria Ltd, on April 24, 2016 at 10.38am and 5.59pm, breaching Section 3.1.14 of the Code.

 

  • FRCN PACESETTER FM Umuahia (103.5FM) was cautioned and advised to repackage the advert of Magic Rambo Insecticide aired on April 17, 2016 and described as the “Eastern No. 1. This breached Section 7.0.14 of the Code.

 

  • DREAM FM ENUGU (92.5FM) was cautioned against the broadcast of musical with indecent language on April 24, 2016 at 2.44pm, in breach of Section 3.6.1 of the Code.

Station was also warned on April 21, 2016, at 3.46pm for breaching Section 7.0.15 of the Code. A presenter with the station, Nanny boy, hyped the services of White Consent Construction Company Limited, thus; “if you want to build good house that is the best in the whole world, anything building materials that involves engineering work, call this number ….. This is not dream phone number, it is for White Consent Construction Company Ltd.….”

 

  • MINAJ TV OBOSI (43UHF) was cautioned and advised to stop further airing of unverifiable content and prophecies in a religious broadcast aired on April 4, 2016 between 7.35pm – 08.05pm which violates  Sections 3.4.1 and 4.3.1 (f&g) of the Code.

 

  • ODENIGBO FM OBOSI (99.1.MHZ) was on April 3, 2016 warned against recurrent hyping of sponsors and products by its presenter, in breach of Sections 7.0.15 and 7.0.14 of the Code.

 

  • BCA RADIO UMUAHIA (88.1FM) was warned and advised to repackage the advert of “Life Vegetable oil” aired on April 9, 2016 with claims to “dissolve fats, in the body, has no rival and that it is the final bus stop in vegetable oil”.  The advert contravened Sections 7.0.18 and 7.3.10 of the Code.

 

 

 IBADAN ZONE

 

  • SPACE F.M, IBADAN was fined Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200,000.00) on April 20, 2016 for use of inciting comments and ridicule of other religious sects by an Islamic group. Sections 4.3.1 (d) & (f) and 4.5.1 was breached.

 

  • RAYPOWER FM, IBADAN was on April 20, 2016 fined One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000.00) for promotion of negative myths and superstitious beliefs. The station breached Sections 7.0.23, 4.2.2 (c) and 3.4.1 of the code.

 

  • PARAMOUNT FM, ABEOKUTA was fined One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000.00) on April 24, 2016 for an attack and ridicule of other religious sects which breaches Section 4.3.1 (d)  of the Code.

 

 

  • LAGELU FM, IBADAN was on April 21, 2016 fined N100,000.00 for unsubstantiated and unverifiable claims and promotion of negative mythsin advertisement. Sections 7.0.23, 7.3.18, 7.3.5, 7.0.7, 7.3.7, 7.0.18 and 7.0.19 were breached.

 

  • UNIQUE FM, ILESHA, was on April 19, 2016 fined N100,000.00 for airing musical with vulgar lyrics, breaching Sections 3.1.7, 3.6.1 & 3.13.2.2 c of the Code.

 

  • ROCK CITY FM, ABEOKUTA was on April 3, 2016 warned for airing a musical with indecent lyrics which breached Section 3.6.1 of the Code.

 

  • SPLASH F.M, IBADAN was on April 4, 2016 cautioned and directed to repackage a programme for excessive infomercial duration, endorsement and misleading claims Sections 8.2.3 (a), 7.0.15 and 8.2.2 of the code.

 

  • LEADCITY FM, IBADAN was on April 4, 2016 issued a Final Warning to comply with the provisions of Section 7.0.10 of the Code on excessive advertisement duration.

 

  • BCOS TV, IBADAN was on April 12, 2016 cautioned and advised to repackage a programme in conformity with the stated provisions of the Code on the use of sponsor’s identification on set and use of scroll bar for advertisement. Sections 8.1.8 & 7.0.35 were breached.

 

  • OGBC II, ABEOKUTA was issued a final warning on April 20, 2016 for promoting negative myth and superstitious beliefs in contravention of Sections 4.2.2 (c) & 7.0.23 of the Code.

 

  •  OLUYOLE FM, IBADAN was warned and directed to correct a presenter who voiced a jingle that was scheduled within the programme he anchored on April 21, 2016, a breach of Sections 7.0.15 & 7.0.20 of the Code.

 

  • OGTV, ABEOKUTA was on April 21, 2016 cautioned and advised to call religious preachers to order for commercializing religion. Sections 4.3.1 (b) & (f) and 8.2.5 were breached.

 

  • LIVING SPRING FM, OSOGBO was issued a final warning to stop inserting infomercials within other programmes on April 22, 2016. Sections 8.2.1 & 3.2.1 were breached.

 

  • CROWN FM, ILESHA was issued a final warning on April 18, 2016 to comply with the provisions of Sections 8.2.1, 3.2.1 and 7.0.18 of the Code on use of infomercials within other programmes and unverifiable calms.

 

  • AMULUDUN FM, IBADAN was on April 5, 2016 issued a final warning to comply with the broadcast Code on excessive advertisement duration in breach of Section 7.0.10 of the code.

 

JOS ZONE

 

  • FRCN HARVEST FM, MAKURDI was fined One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000.00) for playing a musical titled “Body to body” by Ace-hood featuring Chris Brown on April 15, 2016 at 1:23pm with vulgar lyrics, thus; “You are fucking with a real frick, body to body wet as Dasani. This contravenes Section 3.13.2.2c of the Code.

 

 

TSBS (AM) Jalingo was fined One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000.00) for playing a musical titled “Adam Zango” on  April 17, 2016 at 5:52pm with indecent lyrics, thus;  “Money is everything, car is everything, woman is everything”. “let give woman what we have, they give us what they have”. Adjudged to glamorize and extol ostentatious lifestyle.  This contravenes Sections 3.1.7 & 3.7.11 of the Code.

Station was also warned for airing a trado-medic advert of “Akyautata Rayuwa” on April 3, 2016 at 5:30pm, claiming the treatment of all eye complaints or conditions, indication or symptoms which should rightly receive the attention of a registered medical practitioner. This contravene Sections 7.3.5, 7.3.7 and 7.3.18 of the Code.

 

  • RAY POWER FM, JOS, was invited to a meeting by the commission for breaching Sections 7.3.3, 7.3.5, 7.3.7 & 7.3.18 of the Code. Station aired a trado medic advert from Jos Herbal Trade Fair on April 7, 2016 between 10:10am & 10:30am, with claims to offer medicine and advice relating to the treatment of serious diseases, complaints, conditions and symptoms which should rightly receive the attention of a registered medical practitioner e.g. cure for barrenness, sexual weakness in men, worm-like movement in the body etc.

 

  • NTA JOS was warned and invited for a meeting. Station broadcast trado Medic from Jos Herbal trade Fair on April 1,2 & 3, 2016 respectively between 10:00pm & 10:55pm with unproven claims to cure diseases which should rightly receive the attention of a registered medical practitioner. This contravene Sections 7.3.3, 7.3.5, 7.3.7 and 7.3.18 of the code

Station was also invited to a meeting by the commission, for breaching Sections 7.3.3, 7.3.5, 7.3.7 & 7.3.18 of the Code. Station on April 6, 2016 between 3:00pm & 3:25pm, aired trado-medic advert in English language with claims to cure many diseases such as stooling with blood, weakness and menstrual pain, infertility in both men and women etc.

 

  • RHYTHM FM, JOS was invited to a meeting by the commission for breaching Sections 7.3.3, 7.3.5, 7.3.7 & 7.3.18 of the Code. Station on April 7, 2016 between 10:13pm & 10:20pm, aired a trado medic of Jos Herbal Trade Fair with claims to cure ailment that should rightly receive the attention of a certified medical practitioner and lacking other requirement as stipulated in the Code.  This contravenes

 

  • RAY POWER, BAUCHI was invited to a meeting by the commission for contravenes Sections 7.3.3, 7.3.5, 7.3.7 and 7.3.18 of the Code. Station aired a trado-medic advert of “CibiyarRahamaniya” on April 5 & 8, 2016 with testimony claiming that “the mallam gave my wife a medicine that cured her and I am really satisfied that is why I have come to thank the mallam”  

 

  • NTA MAKURDI was warned on April 25, 2016 at 10:05am, for airing a trado-medic advert with spurious claims, thus; “having natural herbs that can handle, waist pain, hotness of the body, barrenness, low sperm count”.  This contravenes Sections 7.3.1, 7.3.5, 7.3.7 and 7.3.18 of the Code.

 

  • UNITY FM, JOS, was warned for aring various trado medic adverts from Jos Herbal Trade Fair on April 28, 2016 between 11:38am & 11:55am which exceeded the 60 seconds spot advert duration.  This contravenes Section 7.0.10 of the Code.

 

  • HIGHLAND FM, JOS, was warned and invited for a meeting for airing a trado-medic advert in Hausa language on April 2, 2016 at 3:05pm with spurious claims to cure all diseases. This contravenes Sections 7.3.3, 7.3.5, 7.3.7 and 7.3.18 of the Code.

 

  • GLOBE FM, BAUCHI was warned for airing a trado-medic infomercial with testimonial which claims to have cure for ulcer during its programme “Sako Daga Sabil” aired on April 1, 2016 between 12:30pm & 12:44pm, contravening Section 8.2.2 of the Code.

 

KADUNA ZONE

 

  • CAPITAL SOUND KADUNA was warned on April 5, 2016 for breaching Section 7.3.20 of the Code. Station aired advert of condom in English and Hausa before the stipulated time.

 

  • FREEDOM RADIO KADUNA was cautioned to desist from allowing sponsorship of news. Station on April 5, 2016 violates Section 5.1.3 of the Code for sponsorship of news commentary by what it called “Some patriotic people of Kaduna State” and developmental stride by governor of Kaduna State Ahmed El Ruafi.

 

  • ALHERI RADIO/DITV KADUNA was cautioned and asked to ensure professionalism by regulating guests appropriately. Station violated Section 3.3.3 of the Code on April 23, 2016 for broadcast of unfair and unbalanced statements against All Progressives Congress (APC) by a guest Alhassa Kauran Mata. 

Station was also cautioned on April 21, 2016 for breaching Sections 4.5.1 and 3.3.3 of the Code for unfair and unbalanced statements against Kaduna State Members of Assembly and Governor Nasiru El Rufai by Hajia Aisha Galadima.

 

  • RAYPOWER FM KADUNA on April 27, 2016 was cautioned and asked to withdraw advert until repackaged. Station advertised Condom without decency, respect for womanhood and the caveat abstinence is the best option in breach of section 3.8.1 and 7.0.7 of the Code.

 

  • EXPRESS RADIO KANO was cautioned and asked to provide a right of reply to the personality maligned. Station on April 9, 2016 broadcast disparaging remarks against Former Kano State Governor Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso by Musa Shuaibu ungoggo. This violates Section 4.5.1, 5.2.5 and 3.3.3 of the Code.

 

  • AIT Kano on May 1, 2016 was cautioned for broadcasting a trado medic advert of Alhaji Tijjani Mai Kada with various unsubstantiated claims, violating section 7.3.18 of the Code.

 

LAGOS ZONE

 

  • TOP RADIO was cautioned as the presenter hyped the advert of premier cool antiseptic soap, thereby breaching Section 7.0.15 of the code.

Station was also cautioned because its presenters (Tara and Wise) expressed their personal opinions while presenting a programme – actually making inciting and incendiary statements. Sections 3.9.1 & 3.13.2.2c of the code were breached.

Station was issued a Final Warning to ensure that its presenters stop hyping as it had almost become a norm, in breach of Section 7.0.15 of the code.

  • TVC was cautioned for broadcasting a movie that made mockery of the sanctity of marriage with many unprintable remarks, in breach of Section 3.6.2 of the code. Station was also cautioned for scrolling false information concerning NBC, that the Commission “Banned” some artists like Wizkid, Davido, Olamide etc, thereby misinforming the general public. Section 3.3.1 of the code was breached.

 

  • RHYTHM FM was cautioned for breaching Section 7.0.15 of the code. A presenter with the station endorsed Jago milk extensively by talking about the different types. He urged listeners to ensure they buy it. This breached Section 7.0.15 of the code.

 

  • RADIO CONTINENTAL was cautioned for airing a programme – sharing life issues with Chaz ‘B’ that is not reflected in its programme schedule, in breach of Section 3.4.7 of the code.

 

  • EKO FM was cautioned for playing a musical not fit for broadcast titled “Nnunnu” by Phyno ft Stormrex with vulgar lyrics. Sections 3.6.1 & 3.13.2.2c of the code were breached.

 

  • STV was issued a Final Warning for airing a programme titled “Almond Finance and Wealth Report” with the title used as backdrop and in front of the table permanently, in breach of Section 1.3.6 of the code.

Station was also cautioned for airing a musical video titled “Lagos to Kampala” by Runtown ft Wizkid laced with partial nudity and indecent exposure. This breached Section 3.6.1 & 3.13.2.2c of the code.

 

  • BEAT FM was cautioned for airing a musical titled “Back to Sleep” by Chris Brown ft Usher and Zayn laced with vulgar and indecent lyrics. Sections 3.6.1 & 3.13.2.2c of the code were breached.

 

  • NIGERIA INFO was cautioned because its presenters endorsed “Fil Products” extensively, in breach of Section 7.0.15 of the code. Station was also advised to caution its presenters for endorsing “Syntex Global” – distributors of extreme fuel treatment extensively, thereby breaching Section 7.0.15 of the code.
  • NAIJA FM was asked to caution its presenters for using their personal opinions while reviewing Newspapers for the day, breaching Section 1.9.3 of the code. Station was also issued a Final Warning because its presenters did not handle a very mature topic professionally. Sections 3.6.1 & 3.13.2.2c of the code were breached.

 

  • BOND FM General Manager and Programmes Manager were invited by the Commission to discuss their series of breaches.

 

  • RADIO LAGOS was cautioned for broadcasting a musical titled “Mr. Campari” by Adewale Ayuba laced with vulgar and indecent lyrics. Sections 3.6.1 & 3.13.2.2c of the code were breached.

 

  • WAZOBIA FM was advised to caution its presenter Twi Twi for endorsing “Action Bitters” extensively and recommending it for the cure of serious ailments. Sections 7.0.15 & 7.3.5 of the code were breached.

 

  • LTV was cautioned for playing a song titled “Pack and Go” by Iyo laced with vulgar lyrics, in breach of Sections 3.6.1 & 3.13.2.2 of the code.

 

MAIDUGURI ZONE

 

  • GMTV on April 10, 2016 was cautioned for the display of program title permanently “Arab viber”, throughout the program. This violated Section 1.3.4 of the Code.

 

  • GMC FM on April 6, 2016 was warned for airing advert of ‘Booster product’, with claims to increase libido and correct sexual weakness. It also aired trado-medic advertisements in violation of section 7.3.18 of the code.

 

  • PROGRESS RADIO GOMBE on April 1, 2016 was cautioned for voicing of advert by a staff of the station, Usman Abubakar in breach of Section 7.0.20 of the Code.

 

  • FRCN MAIDUGURI was cautioned on April 4, 2016 for the broadcast of Al-Hayat Islamic Medicine Center, Maiduguri, who claimed to have cure for diseases such as Diabetes, sexual weakness, infertility and other unsubstantiated claims. This violates Section 7.3.7 of the Code.

 

  • NTA DAMATURU was warned for the persistent non-embossment of Logo, violating Section 1.3.1 of the code.

 

  • RADIO GOTEL FM was warned on April 26, 2016 for the broadcast of foreign music with vulgar lyrics, thus; “…Baby just lay down naked, waiting for me to roll on you, ride on you, fuck you, keep your ass close for me…”. This violated Section 3.13.2.2 (c & d) of the code.

 

  • ABC YOLA FM was warned on April 18, 2016 for playing a music laced with abusive and vulgar lyrics. This violates Sections 3.6.1, 3.13.2.2 (c & d) of the code.

 

 

SOKOTO ZONE

 

  • Section 3.4.7. Of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code was breached by the following stations: RTV Sokoto on April 05 & 30, 2016; Pride FM on April 07 & 20 & 26, 2016; KBC April 06 & 11 & 20, 2016; Zamfara Radio on April 15 & 20, 2016. The stations were cited variously for non adherence to programme schedules without recourse to viewers/listeners and were severally cautioned.

 

  • NTA KEBBI was logged on April 7, 2016 for breaching Section 7.0.22 of the Code as it broadcast the advertisement of ‘Airtel’ service provider converting MTN house colour yellow to its own house colour Red, obviously disparaging its competitor service provider. The programme is noted to be network originated.   

 

UYO ZONE

 

  • NDTV YENAGOA was fined One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000) on April 05, 2016 for airing unsubstantiated claim of miracle and healing during a religious programme of Holy Land Ministry by Prophet Sanai Samuel, where the prophet was shown conducting deliverance on a young lady that was alleged to have an evil spirit.  She claimed to have been married to the girl in the spiritual world and has made her life miserable, the evil spirit in her talking. As the prophet was praying, she demonstrated pulling a ring from her hand and later claimed she has been healed etcetera. This contravene section 4.3.1(g) of the Code.

 

  • AKBC TV, UYO on April 04, 2016 was warned for airing a commercial of Udo Shopping Mall with the claim that at Udo Shopping Mall you get No.1 in quality goods and price reduction. This contravene Section 7.0.14 of the Code.

 

  • TODAY FM, PORT HARCOURT on April 04, 2016 was warned for allowing the presenter to promote Etisalat Samsung smart phone during the programme Soccer Nation with T.J. Williams excerpt: “etisalat has launched into the market the coolest and one of the most affordable smart phones in town, the Samsung galaxy T, mini powered by easy blaze, it comes in gold, white, silver, blue & black. Hurry now to select etisalat”. This breached Section 7.0.15 of the Code.

Station was also warned on April 17, 2016 for airing a programme Love Lounge with Faith and Nkeiru. During the programme a caller phoned in and requested – “I want to hook up with a sugar mummy” and the presenter, Faith, retorted “tell us something about you and drop your number”.Many callers phoned-in and requested to be hooked up with sugar mummies and the presenter requested for their profiles and phone numbers.  This breached Sections 3.6.1, 3.6.2 and 3.7.5 of the Code.

 

  • WAVE FM, PORT HARCOURT on April 10, 2016 was warned for airing tradomedicals of Baba Egbo. The herbal practitioner discussed extensively on male problems, with claim of correcting sexual weakness and infertility in men. He mentioned signs, symptoms and causes of the ailment: premature or quick ejaculation, boil in the pubic region, itching in the private part, painful urination. This breached Sections 7.3.5 and 7.3.18 of the Code.

`             Station was also warned on April 12, 2016 for featuring a an herbal practitioner, Baba Oyo who discussed erectile dysfunction in men. The practitioner said he has a medicine AJEGUN which will first be administered to a patient that will make other medicine work well in the body. He also mentioned signs, symptoms and causes of bacterial infection such as; pile, chronic internal pile; which can lead to erectile dysfunction, urging listeners to visit him. The presenter retorted “una don hear all wetin Baba talk if una get these entire problem visit Baba Oyo”. This breached Sections 7.3.5 and 7.3.18 of the Code.

 

  • RSTV PORT HARCOURT on April 15, 2016 was cautioned for airing the commercial of Computer World which exceeded the stipulated duration with 29 minutes. The logos of MTN, Guiness, Orange magazine, Martini were displayed throughout the programme duration. The programme lacks straight dealing as the title of the programme does not conform to the content. This breached Sections 3.2.1 and 8.2.3(a) of the Code.

 

  • STV PORT HARCOURT on April 22, 2016 was warned for airing a religious programme of unsubstantiated claim of healing with excerpt “…a woman came to me with the issue of blood, the lady was bleeding  and could hardly stand, she said to me that she has growth all over her womb, I prayed for her and she was healed, today she is pregnant as I am talking to you now God has laid in my heart to pray for every woman looking  for fruit of the womb, husband or are you a man looking for wife come this month of April, I will pray for you”. This contravene Section 4.3.1(g) of the Code.

BREACH PROFILE OF STATIONS FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL 2016

ABUJA ZONE

  • HOT FM Abuja  was fined  a Two Hundred Thousand Naira [N200,000] for airing  musicals titled “I like the way” by Timaya on April 12, 2016 and DJ Lambo’s “ The Motions”  with unsuitable lyrics such as “... it can never go boring with coke and henny in the system, come and see me in the bedroom like a gun cum cork it till the next day... it started from the bedroom... baby I wan give it to you right away, baby come through right away… rub me like lotion ah, baby come closer ah ah.. So you come see me naked, you want... will you bitch take off the tee he better know that you wanna fuck”. This breached Sections 3.6.1 and 3.13.2.2c of the code.

 

  • AIT ABUJA was fined One Hundred Thousand Naira [N100,000] for airing Music of Olamide title “Abule sowo” Which contains vulgar lyrics on April 10, 2016. This contravenes Section 3.13.2.2c and 3.6.1 of the code. Station was also advised to repackage advert of Solignum with the use of superlative, “World’s No 1 wood preservative with seal prove quality”, aired on April 12, 2016 in breach Section 7.0.14 of the Code.

 

  • NBS FM KEFFI On April 1, 2016 was fined One Hundred Thousand Naira [N100,000] for airing a classified NTBB music of Olamide tittle “Story for the gods’’ which contravene Section 3.1.6 of the code. Station was also cautioned and advised to repackage the Political jingle of Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu Kandido which exceeded 60secs by 58secs, in breach of section 7.6.2 of the code.

 

  • ITV ABUJA was warned from using scroll bar to advertise and promote Aiwa Global Ventures Nigeria Ltd and their products e.g. “Halogen oven, Aiwa ig slicer, small slicer. Aiwa single juicer” etc. on April 13, 2016. This contravenes Section 7.0.35 of the code.

 

  • NTA NEW 24 on April 26,2016 was cautioned and advised to repackage Advert of Dettol with superlative “No1 selling antiseptic soap proven to kill 100% ill causing germs which contravene Section 7.0.14 of the code.

 

  • KISS FM Abuja On April 3, 2016 was warned to desist from airing programme which contain unverifiable testimonies of miracles. Station featured Champion Assembly Faith with Apostle Gods power Ujah, with unverifiable claims, thus; “A young girl and a pregnant woman were healed of HIV after partaking in the soft drinks shared during the ‘Sunday of Sweetness’; A man suffering from pile for 15 years was healed after pastor’s prayer; A jobless couple were both offered employment by a telecom company and NGO after attending ‘Sunday of Sweetness”. This breached Sections 4.3. 1 & 7.5.1a of the code.

 

  • COOL FM Abuja was cautioned for breaching Section 7.0.15 of the code. Presenter endorsed cookie-bo on April 5, 2016, thus; “Go check them out and see how you can increase your weight, I particularly love their cake it makes me feel good”. This contravene Section 7.0.15 of the code. Station was also written to provide Proof of authentication for airing advert of Jumia with superlative. “Thank you Nigeria for making Jumia your trusted online store”, thereby breaching Section 7.0.14 of the code.
  • KAPITAL FM Abuja was cautioned for airing advert of New Realm Investment LTD with the use of superlative “we get the cheapest price, wey you fit find for market” on April 6, 2016. This contravene section 7.0.14 of the Code. Station was also cautioned for unverifiable claims to miracle by a Preacher on April 23, 2016, who claimed that he delivered a man from ancestral curse that resulted in 17 years barrenness,  and that the man’s wife conceived and today they have 3 children. This contravene Section 4.3.1[F][G] of the Code.

 

  • CROWTHER LOVE FM was caution for airing advert of Akin Herbal Home on April 5, 2016, with claims that A.B Action formula wey be touch and go for long term infections plus menstrual problems and radal capsule wey be immune booster energize, anti-bacteria and low performance enhancer. This contravene Sections 7.3.5 and 7.3.18 of the Code. 

 

  • WAZOBIA FM was warned for airing advert of Gin Clars with unverifiable claims thus;Gin Clars vitamins capsule is the guaranteed and reliable supplement…and helps erectile dysfunction…has no side effect, works like magic” on April 18, 2016 . This contravene Sections 7.3.9; 7.3.3; 7.3.18 and 7.0.31 of the Code.

 

 

  • NBS FM LAFIA was fined  One Hundred Thousand Naira [N100, 000], for airing a classified NTBB music of Olamide titled “story for the god on April 9, 2016 which contravene section 3.1.6 of the Code.  Station was also cautioned and advised to repackage the political jingle of chairmanship candidate of PDP Nasarawa state Hon. Danjuma Musa (Garkuwan Deddere) aired on April 29, 2016 which exceeded 60secs by 38secs. This contravene Section 7.6.2a of the code.

 

  • ROYAL FM ILORIN was warned for hyping Sunlight detergent, thus; "If you wash your cloth with sunlight detergent soap, the scent will remain for up to three or four days and that people won't notice that the cloth is dirty after being worn for three days" on April 4, 2016 which contravenes Section 7.0.15 of the code. Femi Okunlola, a newscaster with the station on April 15, 2016, voiced the advert of Shirt Centre, breaching section 7.0.20 of the code.

Adverts of Apex Microfinance Bank, Princess Paint and Honey Paint exceeding 60 secs were aired on April 19 & 20, 2016 respectively. The adverts ran for 120 secs each, in breach of Section 7.0.10 of the code

Station was also warned On April 25, 2016 when a Presenter with the station, Olayinka Ajani, voiced advert of sunlight detergent, breaching Section 7.0.20 Of the Code.

 

 

 

BENIN ZONE

 

  • ORANGE FM, AKURE on April 15, 2016 was fined One Hundred Thousand Naira (₦100,000) for airing a political interview programme which was not scheduled to be aired. The programme featured Ondo State’s (PDP) Publicity Secretary Hon. Barr. Ogunomo and the Panelist was not balanced. The guest used indecent inciting expressions against other political parties and its members as government of vendetta, stupid and never-do-well people who are condemning the PDP’s 16 year governance. While the Presenter Adeolu Gboyega failed to caution them as required professionally, thereby contravening Sections 3.4.7, 3.3.3 and 4.5.1 of the code.

 

  • OSRC FM, AKURE on April 7, 2016 was issued a Final Warning for airing a programme titled Wolimeje Wakati Meje where the Prophet made unsubstantiated claims exploiting the weakness and state of depression of public, painting natural circumstances as bizarre thus “You are 30, 35, 40 years and not married, 2-3 years never given birth, a graduate for years doing nothing… you need money, come for deliverance”. He also did not restrict his preaching to the content of its creed which contravened Sections 4.3.1f and 7.5.1c of the Code.

 

  • OSRC TV, AKURE on April 18, 2016 was warned for airing a video clip reflecting an event of June 12, 1993 election with prominence of Chief MKO Abiola, and the clip was used without professional identification as archival material during the programme Owuro Lojo (Aroba) thereby contravening Sections 3.5.2 and 5.3.9 of the Code.

  • NTA BENIN, on April 10, 2016 was issued a Final Warning for airing the advert of Zeco Best with the use of superlative thus “Zeco Best na the number one place”, thereby breaching Section 7.0.14 of the Code.

 

  • ITV RADIO, BENIN on April 10, 2016 was issued a Final Warning for airing “Denzel International Therapy Limited” which lasted 1 min 12 secs as against section 7.0.10 of the Code.

In the same advert, “Free super testing machine wey dey detect sickness for body” was offered and the station was called to provide evidence of certification and registration by the appropriate Regulatory body as against section 7.3.15 of the Code. Station was warned on April 29, 2016 for airing the advert of Global Horn PVC Ceilings with the use of superlatives thus; “they manufacture the BEST of PVC Ceilings…” in breach of Section 7.0.14 of the Code.

 

Station on April 08, 2016 was also warned for playing a musical titled “Abule Sowo” by Olamide which contain vulgar lyrics in breach of Section 3.6.1 & 3.31.2.2c of the Code, and displaying of programme title “Bridging the Gap” (Lapo) from the beginning of the programme to the end on April 09, 2016 as against Section 1.3.6 of the Code.

 

  • BSES RADIO, EKITI on April 15, 2016 was issued a Final Warning for airing a religious broadcast programme where the Pastor (Muyiwa Adeyemi) made claims which were not provable and believable thus… I prayed for a lady who is a Sunday school teacher and a spirit in her said she is “MATHAMAand her mission was to destroy lives of men and that she has destroyed the lives of 167 men” and I cast the spirit out of the woman. This contravene Section 4.3.1g of the Code.

 

  • RIZE FM, WARRI on April 04, 2016 was warned for airing the advert of “Warri Shop” with the use of superlatives thus “Warri Shop your number one online shopping destination”, as against Section 7.0.14 of the Code.

 

  • RAYPOWER FM, BENIN on the April 07, 2016 was warned for airing a programme Breaking of Pot (Papa G Ministry) where a Pastor claimed to have spiritually discerned that a sick woman in UBTH, was controlled by a woman through voodoo thus “while the nurse was trying to revive the woman, another woman was pressing the ground like a fowl, when accosted by the Pastor, the woman said it was not his business. This breached Section 4.3.1g of the Code.
  • AIT Benin on April 08, 2016 was warned for abruptly going off air and coming back on without appropriate courtesy to viewers as against Section 3.1.12 of the Code.

Station was also warned for airing a local movie “Agbara Nla (The Ultimate Power)” on April 8, 2016 between 1:00pm and 3:00pm which contained some horror scenes and which is capable of causing psychological harm to children before watershed time of 10:00pm. This contravene Sections 3.10.1, 1.5c and 11.7.2 of the Code.

 

  • EBS Radio, Benin on April 10, 2016 was warned for airing an advert where a trado medical practitioner “Iya Akure” asked women married for years with no child to welcome them at their homes to come for advice and information which contravene Sections 7.3.5 and 7.3.7 of the Code. 

 

  • EBS TV, Benin on April 28, 2016 was issued a warning letter  for airing the advert of “Unibake Special Bread” with the use of superlatives thus “which bread be the BEST bread, Unibake, which bread be the No. 1, Unibake…” during their programe World News as against Section 7.0.14 of the Code.
  •  

 

  • Progress FM, Ekiti on April 25, 2016 was warned for airing the advert of “Eroxil 5000” with claims of weight and fat reduction without stating the likely side effects. This breached Section 7.3.10 of the Code.

 

  • Adaba FM, Akure on April 26, 2016 was warned for airing an infomercial sponsored by management of “Oluji Pure Cocoa Powder”, with claims of potency to improve manpower during its programme “Araa Cocoa” as against section 7.3.18 of the Code.

Station was also warned for airing an advert offering services and solutions to all forms of eye defects of blindness (total and partial) which was sponsored by Mr.
