NBC HOLD TALKS WITH STAKEHOLDERS AHEAD OF THE ABUJA DSO ROLL OUT

NBC HOLD TALKS WITH STAKEHOLDERS AHEAD OF THE ABUJA DSO ROLL OUT

Ahead of the Abuja DSO, slated for December 2016, the National Broadcasting Commission met with Channel owners, licensed Set-Top-Box manufacturers and Signal distributors in Abuja.

The meeting which was chaired by the DG, NBC, Mall. Is’haq Modibbo Kawu, was held at the Commission’s headquarters on the 10th of November, 2016, focused on the DSO, with particular attention on the Abuja roll out.

Mall Is’haq Modibbo Kawu, reiterated the Commission’s continued commitment to ensuring a successful roll out of the Abuja DSO.

He informed stakeholders that the NBC has been mandated to look into the cost of services that will be rendered by the signal distributors and other key players for a successful DSO. He urged them to have at the back of their minds that payments will be made for such services.

The NBC Boss expressed satisfaction with Pinnacle Broadcast Ltd, one of the licenced signal distributors who is to provide services for the Abuja Roll-out on the progress made so far towards preparations for the Abuja DSO.

Mr. Dipo Onifade, the representative of Pinnacle Broadcast, also expressed the company’s appreciation to the NBC for the confidence reposed in them and assured the DG and other stakeholders that the company was fully ready to meet the deadline set by the Government.

The NBC Boss also noted that the Commission is expecting to get at least 12million Set-Top-Boxes delivered by the 13 licenced STB manufacturers’ for the Abuja DSO project.

 

According to the DG, NBC, ‘’Set-Top-Boxes will not be given out free like it was done in Jos where the Plateau State Government purchased some boxes and distributed to TV households in Plateau State except the Commission gets any commitment from the FCT Administration.

He pointed out that 30 channels have been selected for the Abuja DSO roll out.

The DG, NBC, thanked stakeholders for attending the meeting, adding that there was no other option than for the DSO to succeed ‘’we also do not have an option to fail’’. He urged stakeholders to gear up for regular Communications and meetings moving towards the Abuja DSO.

 

The meeting came to a close with the Set-Top-Box manufacturers pledging their commitment towards a successful DSO in Abuja.
