NBC MEETS WITH THE TECHNICAL COMMITTEE AHEAD OF THE ABUJA DSO ROLL OUT

In its continuous effort to ensure a smooth preparation for the Abuja DSO rollout, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) again met with local channels owners, Set-Top-Box manufacturers and the signal distributor in Abuja.

The meeting, which was presided over by the DG, NBC, Mall. Is’haq Modibbo Kawu, was held on the 8th December, 2016. Mall Kawu stated that the meeting was to update stakeholders on the present position on the preparation towards a successful switch on of the Abuja project as well as the availability of the Set-Top-Boxes.

Mr. Rajiv Yekkat of CCNL in his presentation gave an update on the current state of channels distributors, the progress made with local channels on the boxes, availability of STB’s and its distribution arrangements for the Abuja rollout. He added that 15 distributors have been appointed to sell the boxes during and after the Abuja rollout.

Mall. Modibbo, stated that there was a lot about the DSO and there was a need to understand the process. He urged Inview Nigeria Ltd, to work proactively to deliver before the deadline for the Abuja DSO.  He thanked the team for working hard and responding to the call for the countries in the West African Sub-region to transit from Analogue broadcasting to Digital Terrestrial Broadcasting on or before 20th June, 2017.

The DG, NBC, stressed that he hoped that the Abuja DSO rollout will be a success as it will serve as the benchmark of opening digital television in the country.
