REVIEW OF THE 5TH EDITION OF THE NIGERIA BROADCASTING CODE:  CALL FOR INPUT

The National Broadcasting Commission hereby invites the general public to submit input for the review of the 5th Edition of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.

The Nigeria Broadcasting Code is the legal tender on broadcasting in Nigeria.  It contains principles, rules and regulations guiding the practices and operations of the broadcast industry.

The First Edition of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code was put together by stakeholders in 1994 under the supervision of the National Broadcasting Commission.  The power to establish a Code of broadcasting is derived from Section 2(i) (h) of Act 38 of 1992 as amended.  The Code is reviewed every 5 years.  The sole aim of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code is to deliver quality broadcasting to the Nigerian people.

The transition from analogue to digital broadcasting has ample opportunities and challenges ahead. Therefore, to meet up with the challenges of the emerging trend in the broadcast industry, there is the need to have a proper and workable regulatory framework that will guide operators appropriately.  Consequently, the Nigeria Broadcasting Code must be reviewed to consciously reflect regulations and programming in the digital era.

In view of the above, you are requested to make necessary suggestions as input to the new Code (the 6th Edition of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code).  An e-copy of the Code is available on the NBC Website.

Your suggestions should reach the Directorate of Broadcast Policy and Research, National Broadcasting Commission, on or before Friday, August 14, 2015 through bpr@nbc.gov.ng.
