BRIEF ON DR. IGOMU ONOJA – SECRETARY TO THE COMMISSION

Dr.  Igomu Onoja was born on 17^TH November, 1964. He started his career with the National Broadcasting Commission on 18^th May, 2000 as Chief Research and Monitoring Officer and was posted to Benin Zonal Office. He was later posted to Jalingo as the pioneer State Officer in 2002.

He was redeployed to Lagos Zonal Office in June 2003, as Chief Monitoring and Research Officer and appointed Zonal Director, Maiduguri Zone in April 2004.  He was later redeployed to the Broadcast Monitoring Directorate in Headquarters in 2010 and later to Broadcast Policy and Research Directorate in 2012. He was appointed Zonal Director Jos in 2016. He was in charge of general administration of the zonal office and he contributed immensely to the success and growth of the Zone.

In January 2018,  Dr. Onoja was promoted to Director and became Director, Human Resources & Administration, Headquarters, Abuja. In June 2020, the Minister of Information & Culture approved his appointment as the Secretary to the Commission.

Dr. Onoja has contributed a lot to the success of the National Broadcasting Commission as a regulatory agency in areas of Monitoring, Research, Administration and Licensing.

He holds a Doctorate Degree in Media Sociology/ Political Economy. He has worked both in the print and broadcast media, before joining the Commission. He has taught and supervised undergraduate and post graduate projects in departments of Mass Communication, Sociology,  Political Sciences in various Universities such as University of Maiduguri, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, National Open University, Abuja and was on sabbatical at Dept of Mass Communication at the University of Jos in 2013.

He has attended various courses within and outside the country. He has authored to 2 books and 13 articles in peer reviewed journals. 

PROFILE OF BONIFACE N. EKWEALOR, DIRECTOR FINANCE

Born in March 24 1963, Mr. Boniface N. Ekwealor joined the services of National Broadcasting Commission as one of the pioneer staff in February 1993 as Accountant 1.  He holds a B.Sc in Economics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Mr. Ekwealor is a Fellow of the Institute of chartered Accountant of Nigeria.

In 2006, he was redeployed from the Directorate of Finance & Accounts to Internal Audit as Head of the Department.  He was redeployed back to Finance & Accounts in 2008 as an Assistant Director, Finance.

He was promoted Director, Finance & Accounts in 2018.  He has attended many management training both within and outside the country.

Francisca Onyinoyi Aiyetan (Mrs)

Director, Broadcast Monitoring

Erstwhile Zonal Director, National Broadcasting Commission, Abuja Zone where she supervised broadcasting stations in Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa, Niger States and the Federal Capital Territory, Mrs. Aiyetan is a seasoned professional and an avowed coach in the broadcasting industry.

Mrs. Aiyetan is a graduate of Performing Arts from the University of Ilorin, with a Master’s Degree in Media Arts from the University of Abuja Nigeria. She also obtained a Higher Executive Diploma in Marketing from the University of Lagos. She has worked in broadcasting regulation for over 26 years.

Before her journey began at the National Broadcasting Commission, she had worked for the Kogi State Ministry of Education as a Literature/Drama teacher at the Queen of Apostles College, Okene, where she toured the State with her students to perform plays and other literary displays. She also had a stint of Broadcast Marketing at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).

In the 90s, she featured in Tele-dramas on the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) Network Programmes, most popular amongst them being the rested Third Eye scripted by Cordelia Eke and directed by quintessential producers like Late Lai Arasanmi and later Last Eguavon.

Franca’s passion is in the Art- Drama, Dance and Music in that order.  She also enjoys the art of photography. As she rose through the ranks, she worked in Public Affairs the longest, heading the Audiovisual Unit and turning her passion to job.

Mrs Aiyetan has attended several Seminars, Conferences and professional events at home and abroad some of which are, MIPCOM show in Cannes, France; International Broadcast Conference RAI, Amsterdam, Commonwealth Telecommunication Organization Conference, Johannesburg, AfricaCom Cape Town South Africa. Etc. She trained under the world renowned Crestcom Bulletproof Managers in Management and holds a Certificate in Management Development from Wits Business School, Johannesburg.

She is a member of some professional organizations like Society of Nigerian Theatre Artists (SONTA); Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR); Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM).

PROFILE OF GLORA INYENE MAKINDE, DIRECTOR PUBLIC AFFAIRS

GLORIA INYENE MAKINDE (Mrs)

Experienced and goal driven, Gloria Makinde is the Director, Public Affairs, National Broadcasting Commission.

Mrs. Makinde has garnered a wide range of experiences originating from a decade in the Private sector which eventually saw her functioning optimally in the Public sector space in the last 2 decades, within where she has traversed the country in the Broadcasting sector.

Gloria started her career in the National Broadcasting Commission on 29^th May 2000 as an Assistant Chief Public Affairs officer and the Head of the protocol unit. She was also the creator and first editor of the NBC in-house journal “The Regulator” and also organized many international and national events in the Commission.

Mrs Gloria Makinde was appointed Zonal Director, Uyo Zone in 2008, a position she held for more than three years until   she was transferred to Benin Zone where she also spent more than 5 years, more than three years as Zonal Director, regulating and controlling broadcast industry in the zone.

Prior to her work in the Commission, she worked in the Aviation industry for more than Nine years as flight executive and member of the in-house publication.

Mrs. Makinde holds a B. A Honours in Communication Arts from University of Uyo (formerly University of Cross River State). She has also undergone several trainings and workshops in Nigeria and abroad including a certificate in Media Regulation and Development from Albany, London, IBC , Amsterdam etc.

She is a member of Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR)

PROFILE OF MRS STELLA OHUNENE ERHUNMWUNSEE

DIRECTOR, BROADCAST POLICY & RESEARCH

STELLA O. ERHUNMWUNSEE has had an unbroken work experience of 24 years with National Broadcasting Commission.

Erhunmwunsee, S.O. was born on the 11^th of June, 1968 and joined the services of the Commission in 1996 as a Senior Monitoring and Research Officer on Grade level 10, with Master of International Law and Diplomacy – 1995, and B.A. (Hons) History 1990. She is a member of NIPR and NIIA.

Mrs. Erhunmwunsee rose to the post of Director in 2019 through career progression and dint of hardwork, excellence and efficiency.

As a Director, overseeing a team of hard working, diligent and intelligent staff of the Broadcast Policy and Research Directorate, she:

• Directs the planning of research activities for the Commission before the onset of a new year.
• Directs the coordination, collection, analysis and presentation of research reports, facts and statistics relevant to broadcast policies, plans and evaluation for effective regulation,
• Conducts audience ratings and interfaces with Media Research Organisations for the purpose of promoting authenticated audience measurement and penetration.
• Directs the collation, quarterly analysis and preparation of reports based on weekly monitoring reports on broadcast stations.
• Vets, edits and publishes research reports. Directs the evaluation of broadcast stations’ performance in the coverage of issues of national importance such as general elections and pandemic such as COVID-19.
• Co-ordinates the review of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, the policy instrument for regulating broadcasting in Nigeria.
• Initiates comparative studies on emerging broadcast trends to assist in properly situating Nigeria – within global (best practice.) trend.

She has attended many courses within and outside the country.  She has participated in the publication of a number of research reports, been a columnist in the Commission’s in-house magazine and served severally on the rapportueral team of both local and international conferences.

PROFILE OF MR. ACHARA ONYEDIKACHI MATTHEWS, DIRECTOR HUMAN RESOURCES & ADMINISTRATION

 Mr. Achara O. M was born on September 20, 1963 and employed by the Commission in 1998 as Senior Administrative Officer on SGL 10/2 with the following qualifications: Masters of Business Administration (MBA) – 1997, B.Sc in Marketing – 1991, WASC – 1980 and GCE – 1986.

He has been a member of the Chartered Nigerian Institute of Management since 1993.

Through career, progression and hard work, he rose to the post of Director, in 2019.  In 2017, Mr. Achara was appointed Ag. Director Human Resources and Administration, the position he held for 2 years.  Within the period of his acting as Director of Human Resources and Administration, Mr. Achara was able to conduct successfully, the 2017 and 2018 promotions examinations for staff of the Commission.

He has attended many strategic management trainings within and outside the country.  He is presently the Director, Office of the Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
