The FRSC has paid a courtesy visit on the DG and the Management of the National Broadcasting Commission.

The visit which took place on the 23rd November, 2016 was led by the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Boboye. O. Oyeyemi.

In his welcome address, the DG, NBC, Mall. Is’haq Modibbo Kawu stated that it was his tremendous pleasure to welcome the FRSC team to the Commission. He pointed out that the FRSC was one of the remarkable institutions in the country which has contributed immensely to the protection of lives and properties on our roads.

Mall. Modibbo also pointed out that at the moment the Commission was working strenuously to conclude Nigeria’s transition from analogue to digital terrestrial television broadcasting and has concluded work for the Abuja rollout of the DSO coming up in the middle of December, 2016. He also added that what will be done in Abuja is not a pilot but the beginning of the Switch over process. He informed the visitors that the pilot phase was done in Jos which has given the residents of the city the opportunity to watch 15 channels. However in the Abuja rollout, the people will receive 30 free channels. He added that as soon as the Abuja phase was concluded, the roll over in different part of the country will begin.

Mall. Modibbo also pointed out that with the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting, the NBC will have an information portal on the Set-Top-Boxes which will provide a platform for information for and from citizens and it will be available after the Abuja rollout of the DSO.

The DG, NBC, reiterated that the DSO project was a major national project and one which, in a fundamental sense, will determine the professional ability of the NBC as well as the stakeholders in the broadcast industry. He also added that on assumption of duty 6 months ago, he met remarkable and professional people in the NBC who work with a lot of passion in securing the airwaves for the country.

In his response, the FRSC Corps Marshal, Boboye.O. Oyeyemi, thanked the DG and his team for the warm reception accorded them. He also added that the visit was a major renewal of ties between the NBC and FRSC.

He commended the DG, NBC on the job done so far in ensuring Nigeria transits successfully from analogue to digital broadcasting.

The FRSC Corps Marshal also noted that the purpose of their visit was to seek technical support from the NBC and request for a radio licence for the FRSC to enable them disseminate information, update Nigerians about the traffic situation across the country as well as promote the FRSC nationwide because the Commission would want to devote more time on advocacy, especially as the year comes to an end, the FRSC would focus more on safety, enlightenment and less arrest. This he noted needs to be propagated.

He thereafter wished the DG a successful tenure and presented a branded FRSC plague to the DG, NBC.
