The New Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, Mr. Ishaq Modibbo Kawu, has asked for the cooperation of all staff to help take the Commission to the next level.

He explained that he was honoured to be the DG of the broadcast regulatory body, and was ready to work with the staff to achieve the objectives of government in setting up the Commission; stressing that he was open to new ideas and ready to discuss any issue openly and constructively.

Mr.Kawu was addressing staff when he assumed duty on Friday, 27 May 2016. His appointment was announced by the Federal Government on Wednesday, 25 May, 2016.

The new DG was received by the Ag DG, Ms Alheri Saidu, and the Management of the Commission,and was ushered into the Commission’s boardroom where he had a meeting with the Commission’s Management and thereafter met with staff of the Commission.

Speaking on behalf of the Management, Ms. Alheri Saidu welcomed him to the NBC. She informed him of the Zonal structure of the Commission, which consisted of 10 Zonal offices and 24 state offices across the country. She noted that staff members of the Commission were diligent, hardworking and ready to support him.

Ms. Saidu stated further that from the knowledge she hadof the DG, he was an achiever and a goal getter.She used the opportunity to thank the Management and staff for the support and cooperation accorded her during her tenure as Ag Director General.

Mr. Ishaq Modibbo Kawu, in his response, pointed out that his appointment as DG of NBC placed tremendous responsibility on him, but was sure that with the support and commitment of the Staff, NBC would turn out to be the best Regulatory Agency in Africa and one of the best in the world.

He demanded from the Staff an honest attitude to work and implored them to think of how to make Nigeria a great country. He, thereby,assured the management and staff that he would do his best at every point in time.

The Director General stated further that he would bring to the table the knowledge and experience he had acquired over the years so that, “together we can build a vibrant Commission that we will all be proud of.” He pledged to improve things and ensure the Commission gets better.

He pointed out that he would review the past years of the Commission with his management team to see how the issues faced by the Commission could


be resolved while promising to ensure that the on-going Digital Switch over from Analogue to the Digital Terrestrial television Platform was successfully carried forward in a systematic manner.

At this juncture, Ms. Alheri Saidu presented the handover notes to The Director General, signalling the formal handover from her to Mr. Ishaq Modibbo Kawu, as the new helmsman of the National Broadcasting Commission.
